What is a waypoint?
A waypoint is a term used in aviation being a fixed location with a specified longitude and latitude and UTM coordinates.
It is maintained by a GPS. GPS stands for “global positioning system”.
There are natural and artificial waypoints and they are used as references for recurring usage.
A route is created by one or more waypoints, from a start point to a destination.
If simplifying the explanation, it is easier to think about a waypoint as bookmarking a page to reach it again with a quick step.
Nowadays, it is common to find drones with a remote control navigational software which allows to program a specific flight, The software instructs the drone about the destination and the route, specifying if needed at what height, the speed to fly at and it can also be configured to hover at each waypoint.
